Founded in September 2022, the Ngezi Vumawimbi Heritage Organization (NVHO) aims at transmitting knowledge concerning the conservation of Ngezi and other Pemban forests for future generations of Pembans. The Centre focuses its activities in the 10 villages surrounding the Ngezi Vumawimbi Nature Forest Reserve, which, at 2900ha, is the largest area of remaining endemic coastal forest in Zanzibar. An island-wide school programme brings students to the spectacular Vumawimbi beach which lies adjacent to the forest. Our Centre is located within Makangale village in the north western tip of Pemba island (Zanzibar, Tanzania). The organization is currently under registration in Micheweni District.
